I have been unable to add to the posts on this blog for about a week. I blame Christmas, but given how this is the summer holiday season, this lull is set to roll on through to the New Year as well. It is not that I have nothing to write, but we only have a 3G internet connection via the tablet at the caravan, which makes things difficult; also, I am busy doing stuff in the ‘real world’, like cooking, eating, drinking, walking, swimming, and chilling – and next week will be extended to include kayaking, fishing, and a bit of touring. I will try to write anything interesting. The swim was great on Monday – first one of the season, and a bit parky, bit we couldn’t go in too deep because there was a very nasty rip pulling away from the shore. Hopefully I will not have to flee the surf because of a shark like last year. Went to see Tintin in 3D at Hoyts Te Awa, sat in the seats at the back where you get served beer and food, in chairs with a side table which recline and have footrests. Not cheap, but a great experience. Can’t remember the last time we went out. Was great – and Tintin has to be the best animated film I have ever seen. Hard to believe it is animation. True hyperreality.
Still working on the fruit loaf recipe, and think it is now at beta stage, so will revise that while I have the chance. The ingredients I have settled on are dates, one banana, toasted and crushed macadamia nuts instead of walnuts, and toasted flaked almonds on top. Using buttermilk and baking soda seems to give a better result than baking powder and milk.
I have been working on a post about male impersonators and drag kings, but it is very image-intensive, and I haven’t quite figured out how to achieve the layout I want regarding text & images, and think I will have to dust off my html to achieve this in a way that makes any kind of sense.
Belated happy Xmas & best wishes for the New Year to anybody who reads this.
